Hi Geoff,
Just been looking at the Thames Web regarding the Thames Estuary Partnership which hosted several venues for concerned people to express their ideas in connection with the Thames Estuary 2100 Project. I should imagine that you and several concerned Canvey Islanders gave voice to these meetings and can only conclude from your answer to my message that the answers given have resulted in a bleak outlook when it comes to flooding and the lower reaches of the Thames.
What amazes me is the development which has gone on willy nilly along the corridor of the Thames leading into the City. These Developers have absolutely no concience when it comes to the people who will be residing in these properties. Even in these times of crashing, global economies and extremely worrying climate changes, the `fat cats` are still making huge profits. Our grandchildren are going to be the ones who suffer, I feel that my generation was born in the `golden age` we had the best of times, but as with the human condition, we are never satisfied and strive for more (part of our evolutionary process) but all to the cost of our fragile world. Unfortunately, we haven`t got a King Canute to hault the rising tides, it doesn`t look as though there is a solution leaving me to conclude that, only those whose geographical positioning allows them to be `flood proof` will survive while those on the lower plains will suffer human loss and hardship. If this happens, life as we have known it will change dramatically, every single one of us will be affected - there is no magic wand.
